Handle arrived today. This is the image around the lens. One of my concerns was whether it would be big enough. It was. Another issue was the material it was made of was made. While looking for something that might work, I came across a few that were described as some kind of composite. It's not a composite. When I was putting it together, I accidentally jingled the two pieces together. They didn't jingle; you yelled. It wasn't what I expected. This rig is designed to be mounted from below with 15mm rods (as shown in the picture). Above the sections are additionally fitted with two 15mm rods connected. These two are supplied. As I already had the rods for the follow focus gear (on the other side of the lens) I had no trouble setting them up. If you don't have rods you will need a long plate together with two very long screws. I don't expect the screws commonly found on mounting plates to be long enough. If you look at the top of the foremost "C" section you can see that the blue shoulder screw goes through the top and then the bottom, acting as the bar tensioning mechanism. The same applies to the underside. The problem is that the carving is only on the inside of the letter "C". The screw used must go through the plate and the bottom of the clamp section and into the top of the clamp section. One problem I've encountered is the blue groin screw shown on the inside bottom of the foremost "C". It's inserted incorrectly; here it has no clamping function, as the thread lies directly under the tongue and the end of the screw swings freely. In the rear area "C" the screw is installed correctly and performs the function of tightening. While it would be ideal if the blue tab was placed correctly at the bottom, it did interfere with mounting the setup on a tripod. Overall I'm very happy with this rig and would give it five stars and wouldn't," it's due to the tripod attachment issue. THIS IS A VERY SOLID SET! By the way the bars on the bottom are carbon fiber and the bars that go in , come with the machine, metal This doesn't seem to affect the strength of the setup but I might consider replacing them in the future and if I ever feel like the front needs to be really nailed down by tightening the front "C" on I'll do it. Look for a pan head screw similar to what you need to attach the panel. Click on the image to view a larger version.
