I was a little suspicious of sheet masks advertised as "K-Beauty Recipe" because that doesn't mean they're actually from Korea. In fact, these sheet masks came from California. First, I tried dozens of different brands of sheet masks from Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. They ranged from cheap (but effective) to almost outrageously expensive bragging rights. Of these, my favorites almost always came from Korea. It's not that all Korean sheet masks are good, it's just that they have a market for this particular product because they've been making them for so long. When evaluating a sheet mask, I pay attention to: 1. the quality of the essence. (Does it do what it promises? Does it smell bad or cause breakouts?) 2. The material the mask is made of (this determines how well it fits, whether it stretches or tears easily, and how well the essence is absorbed) 3. Size of the mask (is it too big? too small?) 4. Does the essence leave a sticky feeling on the skin? 5. Is it well absorbed? So here's the verdict on these sheet masks: I don't really like the essence, I like them a little thicker and they were all very thin; I haven't tried all of them yet, but of the ones I've tried, the only one I think really does what it's supposed to do is the shea butter mask. So far, none of the masks have had anything other than a faint odor, and none have caused breakouts or irritation. The material is not the worst and not the best; It tends to tear a little around the nose even if I'm very careful. However, it doesn't completely dissolve and the material itself doesn't leave anything on my face (a problem I've only experienced once, but it really annoyed me). It also doesn't tear as easily as some of the previous masks I've used. The mask size is too small. Nothing critical, but noticeable, especially on the sides of the face. I don't have a big face so I don't usually have a problem with sheet masks. The essence of most masks is easily absorbed; There were a couple of masks that felt a bit sticky afterward, but not as bad as I had previously experienced. All in all, they were neither impressive nor terrible. They were just something. I will probably not buy more in the future and will stick with my trusted brands instead.
