Review on NEC PA271W-BK 2560x1440 27-Inch Monitor by Jim Huper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Must have LCD best in my rating

I've waited a few days (a week) before writing a review so I can get a feel for and use the NEC PA271. After researching and learning so many aspects of what makes a good, if not great, monitor, I finally ordered the NEC. Make no mistake, this is a high quality display with accurate colors and a very solid build. The optics alone look first class in a professional series. Initially, the display is bright and high-contrast, but neutral in grayscale, but takes on a new feel after calibration with the Spyder3 Elite. VERY good color/temperature/greyscale neutrality and the ability to choose both white point and brightness made for a great viewing experience. better in my opinion considering the picture quality and color rendition in a MUCH better price range. I ignored ALL reviews complaining about instructions, setup, etc. I didn't even bother as anyone with a little experience can install this display. Getting up is no problem. I hooked it up to a MacPro with the included DVI cable and an ATI 5870 - it's just great. I have no hesitation in recommending this display to anyone involved in photography or graphic design - I've dropped my Apple LEDs. and I have no regrets as this display is an excellent product for mission critical color work. These three brands shouldn't be viewed as anything else, but my vote belongs to NEC. (By the way, LaCie uses NEC, but at an extra cost). Again you either need to calibrate with NEC Spectra View or in my case I used a Spyder3 Elite.
