Revainrating 1 out of 5

DO NOT BUY from Security & Surveillance

UPDATE 05/06/18: I am officially reducing my previous ratings for this camera to 0. I can't really give it 0 stars here at Revain so 1 would be enough but don't let that fool you, it's a 0. I can't say enough, DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA! As mentioned above I bought 2 of these. One on February 28th and the other about 2 weeks later. The second camera I bought stopped working after just 11 days. Revain replaced it and it still works today. However, the first camera I bought has been losing signal left and right for a few weeks. Most of the time I checked the tape, the camera wasn't available. And no, my internet and wifi are fine. The other camera, like all other smart home products I use, still worked. Also, the firmware is up to date for all products, including this camera, and this particular camera is 12 feet from my router, there are no walls or other obstacles in the way. I'm currently getting download speeds of 117Mbps over Wi-Fi on my iPhone, plus other running devices and a wall between the router and the phone. Trust me it's a camera. As I don't currently have a window to return via Revain I tried calling TP-Link. Yesterday I spoke to 5 different people on the phone for an hour. The first few minutes are wasted at a huge communication barrier. The lady didn't speak English very well and seemed to understand less than she spoke. From then on, I got skewered by a few others who said I needed to talk to someone else. Finally after troubleshooting (which I did many times before calling and explained to them more than once) I was finally told that they would change my camera. but not quite yet! First I had to wait for an email and then I had to register on the TP-Link site including putting in my credit card details and then that was processed and then a replacement sent to me. The email arrived faster. when I thought which was a surprise. I went through the steps and got to the point where I entered my credit card information and the website stopped working. I've tried multiple browsers, 3 different computers and even my iPhone. It doesn't go any further. I waited until today and tried again. still the same. So I called her back. After about 20 minutes I was told that they had to come back with me because the manager had gone for lunch. So now I'm waiting for another email and then I'm sure another call. I asked to just send both cameras back and they gave me my money back because I'm not sure if these cameras will continue to work and I don't want to deal with this every few months. Of course, they can only trade (which they couldn't until now), so it looks like I'm stuck with $270 cameras that just don't work. As this is the 4th camera (assuming I get it) in less than 4 months and the after sales service is sorely lacking I cannot recommend others to buy this camera. Your time is worth more than broken products and hours of your "free time" spent on the phone with people who can barely understand the words that are coming out of your mouth. for 11 days and suddenly turned off for some reason. I couldn't access the channel all day at work although everything else could be monitored/controlled including another KC120 camera. When I tried to access a channel in the Kasa app, the wheel was spinning until I got the message "Connection failed. Failed to connect to server." Of course he told me to check my internet connection, but I knew it wasn't because everything else was still working fine. So as soon as I got home from work, I turned it on off and went through the whole setup again. Still not working. I then reset it by using a paperclip to press the reset button on the back. still didn't work! And for the record, yes, both the app as well as the camera firmware have been updated and are ready to use. the camera just wouldn't work. Then I decided to contact technical support. First I tried the phone number listed on the TP-Link website. After entering a few numbers I was waiting for the next repeat while listening to horrible music it was like a radio station stopped playing then there was every few minutes a post telling me that I was very important and that they would be there for me as soon as possible. But here's the catch. If you don't hold down the 1 key during this call, the call will end. After about 9 minutes I missed it and lost my seat. So I liked what to record and I used online chat through TP-Link website. It only took about 5 minutes for my connection to drop. At that point I gave up and just went back to Revain and filled out the return form. I'll be trading them in for the exact same camera as my first one, which I've had for almost 5 weeks and still works fine (despite the clicking feedback noise which I'll cover below, even with the back cover removed. ). Due to the rapid failure of this product and more importantly the lack of technical support, I've lowered my rating from 4 to 3 stars as I can't give a 2.5. Revain is sending me a replacement so I'll see how it goes. But now I'm fed up with this product, and even more so since there doesn't seem to be a reliable after-sales service. I will update this review as needed. ------------------------------------------ -------- ------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW-------- -------- -------------------------------------------------------- ------- - ------------ I took one of these out to try and loved it so much I bought a second one! At home. They still want to chew sometimes, so being able to capture their moment and being able to use the mic to say "NO" is enough to get them to stop! I don't rely on them for home security and while they lack a few things (as other reviews have noted) they're not all that bad. I don't see much difference between the 720 and 1080 channels, so we'll just leave it at 720 to reduce bandwidth usage. Each camera looks at rooms that are roughly 20x20 and 720 channels are enough for us to see all the details we need. It would be nice if there was a zoom, and it would be needed in much larger rooms, but you could do without it. I find the delay time very short, no more than a second. The sound is ok both ways, but I wouldn't say it's great. Again, this is good for us and our needs. Audio-wise, I also had a pretty annoying click when watching a live stream. We couldn't hear it standing next to the camera, but it was definitely coming through the canal. I found a solution to this problem - just remove the back cover from the camera. The magnets holding the back must be interfering with the audio somehow. Anyway, after removing the covers, I found that the feed went to both chambers without an annoying click. According to TP-Link, the camera is fine without it. Edit to add: The next morning, even with the back cover removed, I still hear clicking noises on the first one I bought (it's been about a month or less). I don't hear any clicks in the camera section (which I received yesterday on the day of this review). I also noticed a lot of white noise on both when I cranked up the volume (still with the back cover removed). That's a bummer. The app has worked flawlessly so far. It annoys me that when I click on the camera tab in the Kasa app, both cameras are shown, but this isn't a live stream. It takes a screenshot and only shows those individual images. I would like this to be changed in a future update. better sooner than later. It would be nice to be able to see live feeds from both cameras simultaneously on the same screen. I'm disappointed that the cameras can't be programmed to the Kasa scene, which is in the Kasa app itself. It would be great if I could turn the camera on automatically when I'm away and turn it off when I'm home. It's nice that I can set the on/off time, which is great for bedtime use. Since I can't set the camera to turn on and off automatically when I'm at home or away, I just leave it on. The downside is constant notifications. This entire area needs improvement to use this camera as a more realistic "home security camera". All in all, this camera does what I want it to do. This gives me the ability to watch the live stream whenever I want and offers two-way communication. Basically, this is a really good babysitter cam. The home security camera requires a bit of extra work, but if you're really conscientious about turning it on and off, it's great for that too.
