They are great for a kid just learning to skate! We got them along with our 7 year old daughter's roller skates for her birthday and I'm so glad we did. Since learning to skate, she has fallen many times, which has saved her from many scratches on her elbows and knees. They have been defeated and are still holding up well. They're secure because there's a spandex sleeve behind the Velcro straps, allowing them to stay in place no matter how skinny your arm might be.
