Cooling fan works very well. I use my Dell on my lap (I know I shouldn't). My old fan didn't work with my new computer; So I bought this. As others have said, I turned the machine over as the Dell's heat dissipates at the bottom at the rear of the machine. This has the added benefit of putting the extra USB port and fan controller on the front where I can easily reach them. The fans are silent. Some complain about the inability to turn off the blue light. I close my computer at night and it goes to sleep; When the computer sleeps, the fans and lights are idle. I don't understand why anyone needs a computer to stay awake while he or she sleeps; but to each his own. Update: This worked fine until it died - after 1.5 years. First he started making noise. Then he started cutting. Then, when the fans were running, they wouldn't cool down. Then I bought another pad.
