I bought the docking station because I had an old laser printer (HP 2100tn Laser Jet) that I couldn't get to work over the network. I didn't want to buy a new printer and the only other way to connect this printer was with a serial or parallel port, which my new laptop didn't have. The problem was that if I had bought a Lenovo docking station, I would have spent the same as I would for a printer. The Kensington product works well and I am happy with its performance. My only complaint is that I can't connect an external monitor through the dock and I think that would make it more complete, but that's enough for me.
