I love this camera. Here are some tips for beginners.

I have decided that this year I will learn how to photograph, stop and photograph. I went in circles over which camera to buy. I researched, changed my budget, researched some more. I made the mistake of not taking online courses before buying a camera. Check out some YouTube videos about the hardware and learn how to choose the best one for you. I don't regret this purchase, but I might have changed my strategy a bit if I knew then what I know now. better for those trying to learn different modes. I can say it really is and this camera takes GREAT pictures. I am completely happy. I also bought it for the video capability, although the 70D was slightly more expensive for video it was outside my budget. A few tips for friends who are buying a DSLR for the first time: 1. Spend the extra money on 18-135 STM. It was an instant regret that continues to haunt me. This lens is phenomenal and takes BIG pictures, but the added flexibility would be worth the extra money. The 55mm lens is great for close-ups, it's a great wide-angle lens, but the 55mm lens is short and I've found myself changing lenses more times than I'd like.2. Budget on the lenses, not the camera body. Camera bodies change like cell phones, with the potential to upgrade every few years. Good lenses outlast several bodies. The more courses I take, the more I wish I had a lens budget, and every lesson, video, review will repeat that.3. If you can find a kit that includes a 55-250 STM lens, you'll save $200. Do it!4. In addition to the instructions, buy a book, it really helped me to understand how the camera actually works. There is also a great series of videos from the "Great Courses". It's taught by a National Geographic photographer, and the $80 price tag really opens your eyes to the ability to take great pictures. This T5i is a great camera for beginners and enthusiasts alike. There is not much difference between this camera and the T4i. I think the touchscreen is the biggest upgrade, the touchscreen is amazing by the way. The controls are easy to learn and use. I haven't tested it, but this camera may not be able to handle wet weather like the 70D. Live view works well. I didn't use the video too much, it worked fine with the 18-55STM, but when I tried it with an older 70-300 kit lens it was very noisy and never focused properly. It was a lens, not a camera, hence my #3 suggestion above. These Canon kit lenses break the mold for great shots. You won't be disappointed, but you can upgrade to more expensive lenses if you're doing more than just chasing kids. In fact, several review sites state that the images from these lenses compete with the more expensive ones. Whether you're delving into the world of exposure trying to take great pictures or documenting vacation and family moments, you'll love this camera. Advantages: 1. Easy to use out of the box on "green" setting.2. Just check the exposure in Live View3. The screen is big, bright and customizable4. Pretty simple everyday family use 5. Video capable, multiple frame rate.6. The touchscreen works like my iPhone7. Canon's new kit lenses take very sharp pictures compared to older kit lenses. There really aren't any downsides.
