Well, I know that seems like an exaggeration, but I wanted to make sure this build would last a generation when it comes to art, animation, and video editing. The last thing I want is slowdowns, bottlenecks and the like in the future because I saved initially. This is definitely more than what is needed for a simple build, even with the tasks above, but I believe the new standard for applications will be to take advantage of multi-core systems with more RAM for better workflow . I also like having a consumer supercomputer. just for fun.
