We have a mat/pillow set with discs with similar teeth. It hurt too much but the other half said it was great. To this day I will not use it. She will use it once a week (maybe just to show me she can handle the treatment?). So this term is not alien to us. The doormat is exactly the same as shown in the product details. I have found that my feet are too sensitive to handle the sharp ends of the attached spinal discs. When she tried, even she felt it hurt. But she persevered, sat down in a chair and started with a light pressure on the intervertebral discs with her feet. However, she could not stand on the mat. I think it takes practice and after you get used to the spot treatment you will be able to "endure" the pain. The balm is a good product with a very pleasant smell. She loves it so much that she says it's the best part of the set. I have to agree with her there. ha ha. I am familiar with the techniques and methods of acupuncture treatment. I am well versed in the treatment and use of acupressure. I understand the theoretical and practical aspects of these mats and see them as a valid form of acupressure treatment. They're just not my preferred method. However, the product is trustworthy and true to the images and description in the product details. Thus, it receives a rating of 4 to 4.25 stars.
