I originally bought a large as I'm a size 8 with a thicker waist and thought a medium size with a zip would be comfortable. Not ok. It was huge and I could put it on and take it off without opening it. I ordered a small one and it fits perfectly. It was possible to put it on without unzipping it as there is elastic at the waist as well as a zipper. Overall it was good quality for the price and I've just given a great friend. For reference, she is a size 16-18 or x large.
