Review on HiFiHear Diaphragm Earphone Mirror Polished Detachable by Brian Whitmore

Surprisingly with limitations

First thing you notice is that they are heavy for their size. The case is zinc, not plastic, so the mass there is decent. Next are the short fastenings which make finding the right fit a real pain. In the end I settled on Sedna Earfit TPS tips. It's $20 for two couples, but they will always be closed. I had to wrap tape around the narrow nozzles to hold the Sedna tips in place. Of course, the cable is usually replaced with cheap Chi-Fi headphones. I had a set of 16 strand silver plated copper cables from Tripowin and they sound better than the stock cables. They're also less confusing. As for the sound, they are a bit heavy in the lower bass. The peak altitude is somewhere around 4-6K, which isn't too bad. The mids can sound a little musty, but the resolution and texture are there. Yes, they need to be strengthened. I have my own Mayflower Cmoy running at 1x gain which is basically a portable O2. It really pulls things up and brings the picture into focus. I have a couple of CCA CA16s that I think are pretty good. Blon has lower bass but is faster. CCA is pretty good in the mid-range. The blon might appear a bit skinny, but there's a bit more resolution. CA16s are really good at the top. Especially since it's a three-way system with the fastest drivers at the top. Blons are not far behind, but not as neutral. I hope that the upper frequencies will smooth out as they break in. The picture goes to Blons. The CA16 do their job very well. The soundstage is wide and fairly well focused. Blons have width but added depth. The soundstage is also more focused. CCA CA16 is hard to beat. They're twice the price and fairly neutral. The Blon 01 has a bit more sound in deep bass as well as high frequencies. I hope the last one is gone when they break in. Just take a look. A single driver produces a more coherent sound, and the lack of a crossover is probably why the picture is so good. In most genres, Blon is a pretty clear winner. For orchestral music, this is a difficult choice. Blons are more expressive and have better visualization, but CCAs sound a bit more natural. By the way, I have the same nozzles and cables for OCO CA16. IMHO Blon should come with a plastic body and have something to do with short nozzles. There isn't much to complain about. So change the tips, change the cable, and then use the amp. Then they are just amazing. :-) Update: I used these for a long time over the weekend, connected directly to my LG phone. Yes, they need an amplifier. They sound good when plugged in directly, but the bass was noticeably weaker, the mids felt thin and the soundstage was good but not outstanding.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Thin
