I'm at the small end of the medium range in the hips but have an apple-shaped, problem stomach. I wanted these on the loose & comfortable side for lounging/sleeping. A large fit me great.the material is stretchy enough to handle the big tummy without the hips/legs being overly "sloppy." The rise is also generous enough to wear at the "old-lady natural waistline" but can be turned down for a more contempory fit. I'd buy another 5-6 colors if they just had pockets. The pink is as shown on my monitor: a true "baby pink." Haven't washed them yet so can't comment on that.
