Buy for the tank only

As other reviews have said the skimpy plastic cover and LED light with no power switch are rubbish and belong in the bin. Buy a good LED skylight and install a glass roof if you want to grow live plants. The filter is also oxen. Buy a Tidal 35 filter instead. The aquarium, on the other hand, has a nicely curved front pane with no silicone seams. Please note that the back panel and base are separate glass panes with silicone seals around the edges. Be sure to water test the tank for 24 hours before deciding to install it permanently (Figure 3). I purchased vinyl rubber feet from Homey Depot and attached them to the base to allow water to evaporate in case water spilled on the table and got under the tank (Figure 5). Homey Depot has a 90 degree clear plastic vinyl (color department) that I glued with 100% clear silicone for my custom hinges (Figure 4). There are two types sold at hardware stores: clear vinyl plastic with adhesive strips already applied or without adhesive strips. I bought this with the adhesive strips (picture 4) but in hindsight the adhesive strips weren't sticky enough to hold the glass together tightly so I had to return them and get the vinyl plastic without the adhesive strips. I then used GE 100% clear silicone to adhere the vinyl plastic to the glass top of the aquarium (Figure 1). Your local glass shop can cut two good pieces of clear glass (3mm or 1/8 inch thick) into 10 pieces. Dollar. You want at least enough thickness for the glass to sit snugly on the tank without moving. My glass shop was able to round the corners of the glass on the front for a custom fit over the tank (Figure 1). Don't forget to tell the glass shop to keep the sides and corners smooth so you don't cut yourself handling the glass. The glass is thin. I now have two nice separate pieces of glass without the ugly black loop in the middle so I can get a good view from above and lift the front panel to feed and tend to the plants (Figure 2). I bought Revain Plasti Dip 11252-6 Flex Blue and painted the back panel to hide the filter and heater from the front (Figure 2). Local department stores don't sell this blue because it's slow for them, so they mostly sell white or black plasti dip. I had to order a glass from Revain. I also ordered a Marineland Perfecto Glass Canopy pen from Revain for $7. Simply peel off the protective film and stick it over the glass. This glue is very strong, so just press it for 60 seconds and it will grab the glass like nothing happened. The tank comes with a foam mat, but I chose not to use that. The black carpet is thin and looks like it will absorb and hold moisture, which I don't want to ruin my desk's wood top. I purchased a Dahle Vantage 10671 Self Healing Cutting Mat 12" x 18" in black and this mat is perfect for the aquarium. Since this mat is made of plastic, it rolls off water, does not absorb moisture and does not smell like a styrofoam mat. In addition, wiping the plastic mat with a towel makes cleaning easier. If you like the tank but don't like the cheap add-ons, then I would suggest the 10-gallon rimless water box sold at Petco for $59. Click Helpful if you found this information helpful.
