It looks good when you (finally) mount it. First off, this wasn't my first rodeo. I've replaced dozens of lightbulbs and I'm generally quite comfortable. I don't want to brag, but I even successfully assembled furniture from IKEA. This light, however, is a royal pain. Most lights are very easy to install; Basic wiring, a few screws and you're done. This requires a lot more. START BY VERIFYING THAT THE DEVICE IS POWERED OFF. CHECK THIS, DON'T JUST FLIP A SWITCH AND ASSUME THAT IT STOPS WORKING! First, align the screws in the bracket with the holes in the bracket and place the bracket on the bracket. Then tighten both nuts on the bolts to hold the bolts in place. Screwdrivers and pliers work well. If you mount the bracket to the ceiling and your bracket doesn't match the screws that hold it in place, swear words are likely to be used. Second, the lamp and lamp bracket is a rectangle, so the bracket needs to be fixed to the ceiling. Don't rely on attaching the bracket to the junction box on the ceiling like you would normally do in a typical lighting installation. The bracket should line up with where you will mount the light, ie towards your table or counter. The mount is unlikely to do this via the screw holes on the junction box. So either start by attaching the bracket to the ceiling joist or use drywall anchors if it doesn't go in the direction you want. Third, brings the light together. This part is pretty straight forward. The only really notable thing is that the two rectangles that the light slides down have a through hole and one with a female receiver. The through hole is at the top. Fourth, work with two wires. The plastic nuts that hold them to the bracket are cheap and difficult to thread wire through. When you start by first flipping the plastic nuts and threading the wire that way, they seem to stretch a bit to make it easier to screw them on properly. Fifth, decide how close to the ceiling you want to place the light. Lift it up, then slide the plastic nuts from the bracket (not the ones already on the wire) down to the selected point on one of the wires. The plastic nuts already on the wire can be screwed onto the headlight itself. Sixth, attach the bracket to the lantern at the chosen location with the plastic nut. This is the distance your light will hang from the ceiling. Seventh, measure the wire from the light to the bracket and thread the second wire through the plastic nut and then through the bracket to the same point. Fasten the bracket with a plastic nut at the desired distance. Measure both sides to make sure they are equal, otherwise your lantern will not hang straight. Be careful, cut the wires, but leave a few inches more than you think you'll need. I suggest running the wires (criss-cross) the full length of the bracket and cutting them about an inch beyond the edge of the bracket. They have braided thread over a thick plastic sheath, and the sheath is difficult to remove from the wires without severing the sheathing on the wires themselves. A general purpose wire stripper like the one in my picture works best. Ninth, connect the 2 black wires and 2 white wires from your 2 wires coming from the light fixture to the corresponding black and white wires on the ceiling. Tape and cover all three wires from both. Tenth, attach the mount to the mount using the two supplied screw caps. If the bracket fits your screws, congratulations. If not, keep swearing, remove the bracket and adjust the screws. Once attached, you can use a spirit level to see how well you've measured, but some things are best left unknown. Eleventh, this light doesn't come with bulbs, so take the bulbs you bought and plug them in. Finally the moment of truth has come. Turn on the device and press the switch. When all four indicators light up, you're done. Luckily mine has it. Judging by some other reviews, not everyone is so lucky. A few final thoughts. I am attaching a picture of the instructions. They basically cost nothing. If you ask them for help, hire someone to hang the light for you. Also, mine came with a lot of random parts (didn't even open the package in the picture). Some of them had nothing to do with installing light. I think this is so you don't overdo it. Throughout the installation, you'll wonder if you did something wrong until you flip the switch. After all, if you're buying this light for your spouse to hang up and you get mad at them, that's the right punishment. If you love her, please hire someone. If you're buying this and planning on hanging it yourself after reading, then you're my man and this rite of passage is for you. I wish you luck.
