4 " would have been better, but I'll take what I can get.
My luggage is a duffle bag, and it had a Velcro piece, around 6" wide, that would hold the handles together, and allow me to grab it. After one flight, it was missing. I bought these to replace it, and they're much stronger, but not very comfortable to hold. I couldn't figure out how to best attach the two handles using it, but my wife quickly figured it out, and showed it to me. Now, they're very simple and quick to open/close, and extremely durable.
