I have very few eyelashes and they are a bit messy. I apply waterproof mascara (but any will do) and then use it. Well without mascara it didn't work on my eyes and it didn't leave black mascara stains on my MaryKay product. It heats up in about 10 seconds and the excellent lid automatically turns it off when the lid is put on. Not too hot, but be careful not to touch your contact lenses. I just like to cuddle in your apartment, caress your eyelashes up to the lid and Viola! Definitely better than the old fashioned eyelash curler. The batteries that came with it lasted me about a month. All in all, a great gift that will probably not belong to most women. Nice stocking/Easter basket gift. good price too.
