This was very difficult after the first few turns of the Allen key provided. So to make the whole job easier, grab a good-grip gardening glove to hold the dowel and prevent it from turning (and twist the skin on your palms immediately) and grab a thick rubber/soft-ended Allen wrench Silicone sites so that you can grab, hold and turn it lightly. I've had a pretty rough time with this skinny allen wrench. But after you do it like this it will be very stable and hopefully won't come loose, the screws are quite large for the pre-drilled holes in the dowels.
