Review on 🎧 Top-Quality Audio-Technica ATH-A990Z Art Monitor Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones Black: Experience Superior Sound Quality by Darrin Parasson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Universal, stereo, no software

Hello everyone, I hope this is short! I'm coming from a base HyperX Orbit S $330 (sale $230) so my comparison will be ATH 990Z vs HyperX Orbit SI. I want to talk a little bit about my background; I play a lot, used to play competitively but have recently returned to casual gaming. I play OSU! This is a musical rhythm game where the audio time should be under the low range of 0.3.7ms and since this headset has no software I get a range of 0.4.8ms which is really good. Note that the headset software introduces a slight audio delay from the moment the source is playing to the moment you hear it. Since adding additional effects takes time, it's the same as post-processing, except for real-time audio. The build quality is much better. They're a lot more comfortable to wear, a lot lighter, but they're not really in-ear headphones. Yes it fits over/around your ears but the distance from the driver to your ear is a lot closer than I would like, especially as I have decently sized ears this can be uncomfortable in that regard. The top of the headset only uses these 2 rubber outer sleeves with metal wire inside as backup support, what rests on your head are 2 soft memory foam supports on either side, making them much more comfortable to wear, didn't even feel that anything is on my head. However, as I said before, after a while it gets awkward, if you wear it for more than 68 hours. Now it's not to mention that if I break the headset later on, there may be some sort of wobbling. The ear cuffs, which go around your ear, are well padded despite being made from the same cheap leather as most other materials. Use headphones, so after about a year of wearing/using this headset, the faux leather will fall off. There's not much more to say about the speaker enclosure other than it appears to be metal, but probably shouldn't be cut. The weight/cost makes this headset quite light. Now for the sound quality! I'm a little sad here. Before buying this headset, I had a childish idea that all headsets are in the 7th generation. 1 surround sound business and created software or built software into the headset using a codec or something in the driver to give it 7.1. I'm wrong, this headset is fully stereo and in almost some cases it can sound mono when faced with a bad audio source. blurred by higher tones. This is due to the higher frequency range that this headset offers. So if you're looking for a headset in that spectrum, this is it. The audio EQ isn't well balanced, but it's not particularly balanced either. I'm just not a big fan of the current EQ that this headset offers right out of the box. Play OSU! for a while i got used to the sound and could hear more than usual with my hyperx orbit s, which is a bit surprising given the Orbit specs. I'm sticking with my Orbit S, not my stereo. 7.1 sounds much nicer and gives everything more depth!
