I have not had a chance to use the cable yet, but I really like the lock. It is long and flexible and allows me to lock the main compartment zippers as well as the outside compartment zippers together. Also, it is not a big deal but wanted to point out that there are three positions for this lock - Open (turn number to chosen one, then push a little button, it opens), Closed (open end clicks into place and stays that way, don't have to change number dials to hold it in closed position), Locked (turn number dials to lock).
