Do you need a cable to use the HDMI cable for MacBook Pro

My wife's MacBook Pro laptop doesn't have a port other than USB-C so she can plug it in for her 24" She needed an adapter for the monitor so I suggested getting a direct USB-C to HDMI cable and according to the reviews this one did the job and really works!
