Review on Kurt Adler J3579 Claydough Decoration by Debbie Markovich

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fragile, like a real gingerbread house, but almost looks like a real one!

Very cute figure of good size but totally impractical because clay dough makes it so fragile. Unfortunately, the material they used to make it so realistic and beautiful also makes it as durable as a real gingerbread house. My piece was packaged very well but arrived with broken candies and frosting. Just unpacking without breaking anything was a miracle in itself! It is neither hard nor ceramic like other villages or houses. He's SO delicate. Imagine you order a real gingerbread house already made online, it is delivered to you and of course when you open the box there are some broken pieces on it and then you just take it out of the box, hold your breath and pray in the Breastfeed so the rest doesn't break and fall apart. lol, I'm not exaggerating, I did it! lol It's so pretty and I really like it but I just have no idea how it's going to hold up Christmas show after Christmas show. Also, I would like to know what was so ugly in the house. It's ok to turn the lights off, but when you turn the lights on in the evening you see so much ugly silver metal inside. They worked so hard to make everything look real from the outside but didn't give a thought to the inside and what it looks like when you turn on the lights. If they just made the inside brown or didn't make the windows so big (they looked like a soft glow instead) it would be much better. I own several villages and parts of Department 56 and Lemax. They always do a great job making their pieces look beautiful when lit! This Kurt Adler home doesn't shine as beautifully when lit up. I don't think it would matter from afar, but closer than 10 feet and all you see is an ugly, silvery metal interior peeking through the oversized openings in the house. Maybe I'll just try putting a small weak tea candle there. I don't know, but I hate it when it's on fire. BUT, it looks like a gingerbread house from the outside and it's a good size! But the fragility of the piece and how silly it looks seeing all the ugly metal inside when you turn on the light makes me deduct a few stars. I paid 32€ for it in the sale. I wouldn't pay more for it. If you're hesitant, I suggest you find a store that sells these items, see them in person, and then decide if the game is worth playing. Merry Christmas!
