These look like mittens on the outside, but have fingers on the inside like gloves. They are very warm and comfortable. I've tried several pairs of gloves, and these are the only ones that keep my hands warm while holding my metal snowblower handle for about an hour in sub-freezing temperatures. They are water resistant, but not waterproof and need to be allowed to dry for several hours after use. I'm giving these 4 stars instead of 5 stars because after only two years, the cloth on the backside of one of the mittens is fraying from flexing, even in the absence of abrasion--i.e., the outside surface is wearing thin even with pretty gentle usage. These are probably worth the price for two years of use.
