I bought this to replace a very old and large camelback. The Camelbak was good for trail running, but I found it a little heavy and bulky for OCR racing. The backpack is very light and much smaller. I was a bit concerned that it would wobble without the waist strap, especially when climbing obstacles, but that wasn't an issue. I filled my bladder and put it in the fridge the night before. . The water in the bag probably stayed cold for the first few hours of the race, even though the temperature climbed into the 80's. The pockets were big enough to hold some food (honey gums and rock bars), my headlamp and my phone. If I had two things I would change they would be: 1.) I would prefer the hydration pouch to have its own zippered pocket entrance. To get to the refill pouch, you have to go through the main compartment. So if you top up on the go, you run the risk of splashing water on anything in that compartment. 2.) It would be nice to have some sort of magnetic clip for the end of the tubing. It dangled a bit, there's a hole in the chest strap that seems meant for that, but for someone my size, the tube would end up in my face while running if I used it.
