It is charming and very soft. But it is BIG. For many 12 month old children it is too big. This is probably best suited for ages 18-36 months. For an 18-month-old baby, there will be bulging, but the design is such that bulging is normal. The zipper is smooth and has a clasp at the top so it doesn't close or touch baby's skin. The armholes are very large so an older baby won't outgrow the armholes. Be sure to wear a jumpsuit or other outfit underneath. I love how soft and velvety the fabric is on the outside. Unfortunately, the inside isn't as velvety. But here, too, the child still has to wear something underneath. Thus, the velvety feel would not touch the child's skin, even if the inside were made of it. The interior is lined with soft fabric, but not as soft as the main fabric. The inscription on the one I received is very cute, it reads "You are my hero." This is a great reminder for mom and dad that you really are a hero to someone. You all are her. For this reason it is a nice gift.
