Review on JBL Flip Bluetooth Connection Black by Larry Blanco

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent sound and ease of use when not dependent on Bluetooth functionality

My friend wanted a portable sound system that could play her iPod wirelessly, but didn't want anything bulky. I have an Altec-Lansing (subsidiary of JBL) IM7 that I've had for years and it sounds great, but it's out of production and too big for its needs. The JBL Flip looked spot on, and some quick searches online turned up very positive reviews. The device works as advertised. Fifteen seconds after turning it on, my friend was playing her tunes through the device via Bluetooth. The sound quality is excellent for such a small form factor. To add value to your purchase, the Flip comes with rechargeable Li-Ion batteries and a built-in microphone, so you can use it as a speakerphone when making/receiving calls on your smartphone! Don't be intimidated by the price of this little gem ($99). RRP), it's more than worth the price. In fact, I've already put it on my birthday list! UPDATE After using my flip for about a year (I bought one for myself while also ordering the one I referenced in my original review) I felt I needed to go back and my original 5 star review change. Why do you ask? For a reason, but a VERY important reason: this device is terribly annoying when you're trying to syncing it to your audio device via Bluetooth (I've tried syncing iPhone 3S, iPhone 5 and iPod Touch, all with the same results). One day the two devices sync almost instantly, other days you can wait until you fall asleep from boredom and they NEVER sync. You can try turning Flip on and off, you can try throwing it against a wall (which I've been tempted to do a couple of times), nothing can be done to make it work. I still love the sound quality, its insulated carrying case, and the battery life, but I don't even try to use its wireless capability anymore, I just carry around a 6-inch audio cable to connect my iPod to the unit. For your information, JBL customer service was unhelpful in trying to help me resolve the issue. its insulated carrying case and battery life, but I don't even try to use its wireless capability anymore, I just carry around a 6-inch audio cable to connect my iPod to the unit.
