My daughter and her teenage friend were staying overnight so I put the unit in one of the drawers under her crib. As other reviewers have noted, the device is noisy and lacks a volume control. A few farts sound a bit robotic for lack of a better word. So I wrapped the device in some washcloths. It helped a lot with both problems. Then I waited until they went to bed and pressed a button on the remote control. I heard them blaming each other for the noise. I pressed the button again, they started to freak out a little realizing that maybe it wasn't one of them. I waited a while and did it again. Now they've gone really crazy and knocked on our bedroom door. Now they were semi-hysterical, trying to explain what was going on like it was a ghost or something. That was great! My wife and I tried not to mess around! Pros: Realistic. The remote works at least 30 feet away (and through 2 walls). Cons: No volume control but you can mute it. People have suggested an option to play the same sound again (not by accident). Partially agrees, but then it will sound more wrong. However, if that was an option then you have the best of both worlds. For the device itself you need a 9V battery. The battery in the remote control is included. Some have complained about the limited range. I have to wonder if these devices have a low remote control battery. This is an A23S 12V battery that can be easily replaced by removing one screw from the remote housing. I would check the voltage with a voltmeter to see if that is the cause.
