I bought size S in olive green. My usual size is from X to small. I have slightly broader shoulders, so jackets tend to make me small. This jacket was shorter but roomy (loose fit as the name suggests). I personally didn't find it thin or tight in the hands. I didn't like the roomy and cropped fit. I could try xsmall but that wouldn't solve the length problem. The fabric is dense cotton, similar in thickness to denim, but has the appearance of twill. In the end I returned.
