It has been several years since I last bought and used such a portable monitor. The image has always been faint and blurry in the past, so I was very curious to see if it has improved over the past few years. ** IMAGE QUALITY ** Image quality was mediocre right out of the box. I went into settings and tried adjusting brightness, contrast etc with moderate improvement. However, I finally found an option for HDR. My advice to you: turn it on immediately! Wow, it really changed the display from mediocre to pretty good. No, not as bright as a built-in laptop display or an external display, but still usable. When I used it as an external display for my Nintendo Switch I was very impressed with how awesome it looks! powered by the device it is connected to. Here's what I found: β’ When connecting to a 15" MacBook Pro via USB-C, a separate power adapter was not required. β’ Connected to Nintendo Switch via USB-C, it required a separate power adapter β’ Connected to a laptop via HDMI, it required a separate power adapter For my main work computer, it's great that I can use it to go without worrying about a separate power supply for having to do the display. That's especially good since all the USB-C ports are on the same side, and the included power cord is just over 3 feet long. If you had to run that cord into an outlet every time, that would be quite impractical! I'm also glad they included an HDMI -> mini-HDMI cable in the box as I don't usually carry one around.** PHYSICAL DESIGN **This display is delightfully thin and light. and convenient to adjust the viewing angle. The speakers are tucked into the bottom edge of the stand (I think), which seems to work well to bounce off whatever surface it's sitting on. The speakers don't fill an entire room, but they're great for 1-5 people sitting relatively close together.** SUMMARY **I really like this display, especially after turning on the HDR option for videos. Because it can be powered by a laptop via USB-C, it's very functional as a portable secondary display for work. If you don't mind using a long USB cable for power, it also works well for other needs like playing Switch or connecting to random other HDMI sources on the go. I agree with another reviewer who said it would be nice. have tote bag. I don't want the screen scouring stuffed in my pocket so it definitely needs a case or case sooner rather than later. It would be very nice to have this in a box.
