This heater is marketed as "professional". There is a digital temperature display and a push button control for adjustment. During operation, the device remembers the last set temperature, making it easy to "set and forget”. When setting the temperature, the display first shows "Set temperature" and after a while it changes to show the current temperature. It can be set to Fahrenheit or Celsius depending on your preference. Although the detachable aluminum pot is a standard size, the device itself is quite large. It comes in an 8x8x8 box and pretty much fills it up. I have another heating pad small enough to fit in a drawer but not with this one. At first I thought that with a small base the size would make it unstable, but in practice this is not a problem. There is a standard detachable power cord that can be substituted if you need a longer or shorter cord. One thing that I immediately didn't like about this device is that when using any of the controls, there is a very loud beeping sound. . I personally find the sound terribly loud, but I haven't found a way to turn it off. That would be a nice addition. On the first try, the devices loaded it with about 1/2 inch wax beans and set the temperature to 150F to melt the wax. It took a long time to partially melt, so I turned it on. to 200 F, after which the wax melted much faster. During the heating, the temperature reading slowly rose to the set point and was held there fairly constantly thereafter. Again the temperature reading dropped and then stayed at the setpoint. Good. My other heater has a simple adjustment knob with no dial. With this device it is much more difficult to set a specific temperature as it takes a long time to switch and it is much more difficult to set different temperatures for different waxes. It's child's play in comparison. and it only costs a few bucks more. One thing I miss about my other heating pad is no pot with sticks to make cleaning easier. Although the aluminum pan is moveable on this pan, I found it almost impossible to extract the wax from it once it cooled. This pan is best cleaned when it's still warm - it makes it much easier for the wax to come out. I think the manufacturer missed the opportunity by going without a non-stick pan as there are cheaper devices with this feature. The lack of a non-stick pan is the main reason I deducted a star.
