Review on πŸ“± Sturdy and Protective OtterBox Defender Series Case for iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd, 2nd, & 1st Gen) - Black by Don Acevedo

The flimsy OtterBox for holding the pencil is a major weak point

I have used OtterBox products in the past and they have stood the test of time as my children have grown . I decided to buy a new OtterBox for myself when the new iPad Pro 11 (2021) came out, but I'm a little sad to say that the case designers compromised on the design to have the Apple Pencil attached with magnets can. The frame on the right is fragile (portrait orientation) and the pen flap is easy to break after long-term use. I would have preferred not to have a pencil door at all to keep the plastic frame from bending. Also, the frame on the pen flap may scratch the device after long-term use because it keeps rubbing against the iPad. It would have been better if the case had a plastic "shelf" like some other designs I've seen that implemented a pencil. It's also supposed to have double-sided tape to re-stick the rubber to the inner frame (guess: on the pencil door), but that seems like an odd attachment too. There's some cool technology in the iPad Pro, but accessory makers struggle to hold tight tolerances.

Pros
  • Includes a limited lifetime warranty on the OtterBox
Cons
  • New competition has arrived
