These have been great trail running shoes and all purpose running shoes for the last 3 months of use. In the past I've mostly used a set of trail running gloves (the newest I've ever worn). This is also a great shoe, but it doesn't offer enough protection when running on trails with a lot of exposed roots and sharp rocks. I learned this the hard way when I transitioned from the relatively warm trails of the West Coast to the verdant forest trails of New England. After a few weeks of trail gloves in these conditions, my feet were protesting loudly, so it was time to try something different. With the Novas I haven't felt any impact from rocks etc. on the trails yet. They give up some trail "feel" with added cushioning and non-zero drop, but in my case it wasn't much of a problem getting used to it and it was worth saving my feet.
