Review on Westcott 2011 43-Inch Optical White Satin Collapsible Umbrella: Sleek Black Design by Adam Gerome

Wrong way to remove the cover

I have several umbrellas; Promaster, Westcote and Calumet. They all have a very similar design when it comes to removing the reversible black cover. This one, as it folds in half, should use a different mechanism so the top of the lid doesn't just "burst" when it's folded. With a regular single umbrella, the tension of the black sleeve holds it in place, but with a double fold, the loss of tension during the fold causes the fabric to loosen and individual pins to come loose. Westcott uses a screw at the end of the umbrella to hold the fabric in place on at least one end where the problem is. When removing, the black cover can be easily removed completely. Trying to reattach the screw literally took 15 minutes. You need to thread a screw through black and white cloth (neither lined up with a threaded hole). I'm not an engineer but I think Westcott really got it wrong, just feels horrible and something that should be less than $29.99 is back to Revain.

Cons
