First of all I would like to say that this printer got a lot of bad reviews just because of the installation process. Having just installed it myself (on my laptop and phone) I can assure you that the installation is quite easy if you READ the instructions and pay attention to the little arrows that will guide you through the appropriate steps depending on how you will use the device. The first process is to physically set up the printer, plug it in, turn it on, and install the ink. The second step is to set up the printer for a wireless or wired connection. When you reach the end of this step, the printer will be recognized by your computer but will not be able to print because the drivers and software are not yet installed on your device - setup instructions at this point will refer you to a different instruction booklet. is located in the plastic document pouch that came with the printer. This second installation guide will then walk you through the steps to install the required software on your chosen devices. On a computer, this requires either logging on to the Internet and downloading the software, or using the CD that came with it. The phone requires an app download. Both downloads will then guide you through the rest of the installation. Again, all you have to do is take your time and read (and don't freak out about all the options you're given, just follow the arrows and read/follow whatever instructions you need, depending on which device you are going to press). I followed all the instructions and after a few minutes the phone was up and running. The computer took a little longer due to the long loading time. The software and the device appear to be fine. I've been using Canon printers for a long time and have never had any problems. This printer seems like a good little printer for those who don't print in bulk (if you plan to do this, buy a model with separate color cartridges as you'll save a pack of ink in the long run and generally improve print quality). It was bought to replace a standalone scanner that has given up its last breath and doesn't print much (mostly I use a laser printer). As with all reviews, feel free to take these with a grain of salt; I have been dealing with such things privately and professionally for a long time and have installed many printers. It was easy to do and I think anyone who can read and understand at the same time can do it. I don't expect any issues with this printer but will update this review if necessary. If this review doesn't update, assume all is well!
