This was a great buy for us. I have an older cat (at least 1 year old!) and an exuberant toddler. The child is very rough with the cat and it is very difficult to keep them away from each other. Try as I might, the cat was NOT smart enough to stay away from the baby and gets angry when I lock him in the bedroom. a place where he was still immersed in family life but could be safely out of our little one's reach. We have it by the window behind the TV so it's a bit hidden and he jumps on the speaker to reach it. The heated part is great as it is more welcoming to the cat. Needless to say, this worked great for our situation and reduced a lot of stress. The cat is happy with the window sill heater, the baby cannot reach the cat, everything is fine.
