Review on GVM Video Continuous Spotlight Photography by Heidi Thompson

My reviews of this camera gear focus on product details or features that are not listed on the product page and can only be experienced by using the product. My goal is to help others who are considering this product for their lighting or photography setups. This light was purchased to replace my current permanent lighting which consisted of bright CFL bulbs and upgraded corn LED barrel bulbs covered in white flash umbrellas. They weren't that strong and gave off a light temperature that would always need editing when posting with Lightroom cc. Stand. So I leave the box while the white foam has been cut out to fit all the components in place. Using this GVM light allows me to keep the color as if it were daylight, making skin tones perfect. This is because the light has a high color rendering index of 97+ which I was taught is required for professional video lighting. Much of the construction is thick black plastic, making the price and weight very low. This type of body material makes it extremely wearable. I can place this light in 79" on the included GVM stand or use another light stand over 96" tall to create a backlit golden hour at sunset and I only have to use a small weight bag to hold the stand to keep up with that tilt light. The back of the unit is the simplest light source in my photography gear. Power connector, power switch and brightness control. I plug the 30V adapter cord into a small, switchable outlet so I can control the power after I set my desired brightness. I always ration the number of hours of light to maximize the life of the LED. on the back of the device (it doesn't matter much). Fan light or cooling mechanism noise is low to near zero, which means less white noise in video recording. The field of illumination starts a few centimeters away from the blinding square LED. When I attach the included metal reflector with Bowens mount, it focuses the light in a tighter circle. An umbrella will help soften or diffuse the light to reduce the harshness of the shadows. I look forward to purchasing additional Bowens mount compatible softboxes or overlays for great lighting effects for videos or photos.
