Just returned from my first ride in this jacket at a cloudy and gusty 44 degree race. The wind was just cold. Under the jacket I put on thermal underwear with long sleeves. The cut of this jacket is athletic, which means if you have extra volume or bulk in odd places, it probably won't fit properly. However, if you can wear tight-fitting clothing, the Elite Softshell is for you. I'm 5'11" and 155 pounds. I'm not sure about the arm length, but the sleeves are long enough. I think the medium size fits almost perfectly. Fits snugly at the waist, tapers to the body, and is loose enough. in hand for comfort. Absolutely no problems with the base layer. In fact, I could easily wear something thicker. Contrary to other opinions, I would say if you normally wear a mid-layer, buy a mid-layer. My upper body stayed warm throughout the ride. It's a lot more breathable than my shell, but I still managed to sweat a lot. I found that the only part of my body that was constantly cold were my hands - not because of the wind. The jacket is windproof, but the material is quite thin, so you feel cool despite the microfleece lining. You won't be cold, just cold (not bad). Will it be comfortable below 30/20 degrees? I'll let you know. Overall I enjoyed riding in the Elite Softshell. compared to most other brands.
