That's a very smart idea, but unfortunately it didn't work. The ability to choose the number of layers is useful, but only adjusts the height of the pillow. All layers are very soft, so you can have a high (thick) soft pillow or a low (thin) pillow. It would be better to have several layers of different firmness so that you have a medium soft or a medium hard pillow. It also felt like the layers had slipped off while sleeping. They were in my standard pillowcase so it wasn't a problem. This is typical of a tiered approach. Also, the pillow was warm. Good in winter (maybe), but not in summer.
