Almost as interesting as the camera itself, there's a huge gap between those who love them and those who hate them. Haters often mention the same two problems: 1. After some time the camera "hangs" and only comes back to life by reinserting the battery.2. More common complaints are that images are often fuzzy, have poor contrast, etc. I hope Nikon keeps a record of the serial numbers of any of their s9100 cameras that suffer from any of these issues. There are a thousand ways that a mistake in the manufacturing process can ruin the end product. Then feedback is needed. I had the camera for about a week. This works fine, but I find that by "optimizing" the camera (and yourself) you can get much better shots: 1. Try setting the resolution to maximum instead of standard. High compression ratios are inconvenient for the user.2. Many of the photos can be tweaked a bit. I usually increase contrast, shadows and sharpness with Picasa3. Sometimes he brings the dead back to life.3. Give the camera time to focus. It's temperamental. A heavy finger on the shutter button can blur the result. Two positive aspects of the camera.1. Wonderfully lightweight panorama maker both horizontally and vertically.2. Excellent transfer of skin tones (pale pink in any case). Never seen better. There are minor blemishes but overall a great camera when it works properly. As a mathematician, I rate it 4.67238 but round up to 4. I bought the camera on the recommendation of a friend. Maybe he and I are the only ones worth it. I hope not.
