I used to use a blower, sensor brush and SensorKlear to clean the sensor. These methods can be effective for dry dust, but may not be enough for stubborn stains, and the wet method is the way to go. The VSGO swab and cleaning liquid are pretty simple, safe and effective to use. However, the cleaning liquid bottle could be better designed as it can be difficult to see/control drips. If the swab is too wet, streaks will appear on the sensor. There was a hard spot on my camera's sensor (more like a short streak) and the usual two passes (with some pressure as the sensor isn't stabilizing/stuck) didn't remove it. Instead of using a new tampon, I reuse the current one, two passes, and the stain (perhaps oil from the flapper as it's near the top edge?) was still there. I ended up using some extra cleaning fluid and just focusing the cleaning on that area, allowing the swab to dry a little, then doing the recommended left-to-right, then right-to-left brushing. I used the same tampon probably 5-6 times and ended up with a flawless sensor. If you're cleaning a transducer and the first two passes don't get a good result, using the same swab seems safe and effective. again. I would use a blower to blow off any contaminants on the tip before cleaning the sensor again. Otherwise I'm left with half a pack of tampons after just one probe cleaning. If you see visible streaks on the transducer due to excess cleaning liquid on the swab, allow the swab to dry for half a minute and then repeat two passes. If you see fewer bands, repeat the previous step (maybe more than once) and you should end up with a sensor with no bands. It is not necessary to use a new dry swab as a dry swab may not completely remove the streaks.
