Important Lamp Height/Visibility Issues Info

This is actually a great little lamp that fits in a narrow (8") windowsill overlooking the garden, but there is one important (read: important) exception . Lamp height and visibility issues Even with a low wattage incandescent bulb, or even a (small) household lamp or traditional base candle type, the glare from the bulb is not blocked due to the open top of the lampshade and a very low profile with the lamp socket raised in the middle of the lampshade height. This results in the pear being placed very high, which is unacceptable. I tried using a coated bulb (a Lutron to avoid excessive heat build-up which could ruin the lampshade over time). But the lamp's normal height is too tall (including the shorter spherical shape) and it still protrudes above the lampshade - no company makes coated appliances-sized lamps. So don't go there as coated lamps are very expensive. As a last resort, I used an IKEA household lightbulb made with a transparent rubbery coating. I half dipped it in craft paint (brown, the color of the lamp) and hung it upside down to dry. It's efficient enough to get through. such a pain
