Actually I didn't use the thermal blanket for its intended purpose. I use them to keep the house warm and tape them to my glass windows. I started using emergency blankets last year when I ordered a pack of five from another service and moved in in mid-January in an 8-degree night. A few layers of thermal blankets behind my patio door, also covered by a curtain, seemed to help retain some warmth. I was planning on using a few layers of thermal blankets in front of every window in my house before we had 25 inches of snow, but I still have to unpack the boxes from floor to ceiling and putting thermal blankets around the boxes is a little awkward. Luckily my husband just helped me put thermal blankets in front of the four windows in the house which were covered with plastic shutters but also had a cornice over the shutters. He pulled the thermal blanket over the cornice so that it hung like a makeshift silver curtain with a silver valance just by throwing the blanket over the cornice. We still have huge heating bills but I think thermal blankets prevent a lot of heat escaping through the windows and also keep a lot of cold air out. I can order more blankets later for other windows or keep them handy for their original use.
