I am one of the dispossessed Mephistos, a woman who in a year previously bought up to three pairs of women's Mephisto Rush size 8 because these are the only shoes I have ever found that I walk safely and comfortably in can. I've been wearing them to work or play, as an outfit or everyday for over a decade. Yes, the quality dropped a bit as production moved from France to other countries, but nonetheless, these shoes outperformed all others. Then Mephisto stopped making them for women. The four pairs I currently own are battered and worn. I'm desperate. So I bought this pair I'm reviewing, men's size 6, supposedly the equivalent of the women's size I've always worn. I tried them. I think they will. They appear a bit wider, especially in the heel area. There are five metal lace rings in addition to the lace eyelets near the toe, as opposed to four on the women's model. I think that's why the lace seems so much shorter and harder to tie. I haven't worn them yet. I keep them for "special" occasions. I'm also afraid that they might slip on my heels. All in all, this is still an excellent shoe: quality materials and good workmanship. The proof will be in evidence. I gave them 4 because I just don't know yet. I just wish Mephisto wouldn't forget women.
