The best $139 to spend on headphones. ***Update***

Hello Melomania 1+! Yes! So, I am an avid headphone enthusiast and own or have owned almost every relevant headphone that has been released in recent years. I'm looking for the perfect kidney and will try to stop as soon as I find it. The ones I didn't have were the first Melomania 1s. The reason was simple; Despite the great reviews, I hated the look of the buds themselves. They were like Frankenstein pegs flying out of my ears. Cambridge Audio is an old British company. They specialize in high quality sound and claim to be just music lovers creating great things for other music lovers. I believe you. When I saw that they were released despite keeping the same design, I finally gave up. I should have known I'm glad I did. I finally got it, but they aren't perfect and my fears about the design didn't materialize. So, with all that, here's a breakdown of the good and the bad. However, remember that there aren't that many bad things. Good features: Sound: It all starts here, because everything happens with sound. If they don't sound good, what's the point? That sounds absolutely amazing. Compared to the Jabra 85t, the latest Bose QuietComfort headphones, Samsung Buds Pro, Klipsch T5 II and Airpod Pro, they are on par if not better than all the others. They have a surprisingly wide stage. Solid bass, full mids and powerful highs. There is virtually no audio lag when watching a video. In addition, CA supports a range of codecs including AptX and AAC, allowing Android and iOS users to get the most out of them. I was concerned that a single 5.6mm driver might be good. Rest assured that it is. It sounds natural so the bass heads can be a bit out of tune but I can't imagine many people being unhappy here. - Case: Possibly the most underrated part of earbuds in my opinion as it's something you should carry with you every day. This case is pure gold. The buds close tightly. You kind of have to rotate them when they sit a certain way to charge, but one day they're going nowhere. It's thin and pocket-friendly. The lid almost slams shut, the magnets are so strong. An upgrade from the original is USBC charging. Great addition! In addition, the case contains 4 additional loads from an 8 or 9 hour pack of buds. Fabulous! The only downside is the lack of wireless charging, but with nearly 45 hours of total battery life on a full charge, I just don't miss it here. App: Another big win here is the Melomania app. It's just smooth. You can remap buttons, upgrade your headphones, tweak the equalizer, and more. In addition, it is very polished. Really well done. I can't tell you how many applications here can learn from CA. Intangible: Bluetooth 5.0 Gen 2 for easy pairing and super stable connection. You can use each button independently. Your content will automatically pause when you pop the bud. There are just so many good things. The Bad: Form Factor: Well I hate the pin design. They give you both silicone and molded comfort tips, which helps. I'd highly recommend the Comfort earbuds as they make things more stable, but they can't do much with headphones that hang out of your ears like that. I would like to point out that CA has done a lot to reduce her weight. Each Original Melomania 1 weighed 9.2g, making it 50% lighter (4.6g). Excellent work. They have really cool round lights that glow slightly when in use. However, I just can't get past the design. CA is up to something here, but they should make it even smaller for me. - Missing items: No ANC here. Most high-quality bud has this these days, but CA doesn't charge high prices. They only give you high-end bud, so skipping it works great here. There's no transparency mode or ability to hear your surroundings beyond cardioid distance. Not the best. Call quality: not great, but not terrible either. Just make sure the mics are turned down and you'll have decent calls. CA made a small indentation on the side of the headphones, which is just above the microphones. Just feel for it and make sure it's pointing down, or better yet, tilted slightly toward your mouth for best results. There are many headphones that are much better in this regard, but they are not useless. Conclusion: I'm not often speechless when it comes to headphones, but I'm almost there. What CA managed to do for $139 should make us all wonder why we've considered spending so much more in the past. Nearly. Big bars sticking out of the ears are still a problem. However, when you look at the competition, hear these things in action, and consider all they give you for the price, I just don't know if there's better all-around value in this headphone space. Time. Yes, for $200 I'll still take my Jabra 85t and Galaxy Pro, not these. Yes, for $279, the Bose is better. If sound and music are the driving force, however, buy it for $139. They are amazing. ***Update*** Alright I had to wait for this review to post so I could add something I found regarding the fit. I went for the smallest silicone tip they offer, which I never do, but it allows the earbuds to sit a little deeper in my ears. Still safe and still sounds amazing. Also, they don't stick out as much from the ears. Having only spent about a week here I am still very happy. They are my current daily drivers. Oh, one more note. I'm not sure I gave Cambridge Audio credit for how well made they are. The fit and finish of the entire set from the case to the earbuds is superb. Very well designed! Cheers to the CA team! Buy with complete confidence Another additional thought. Was on the phone today with a friend who was testing the new Master & Dynamic MW08 (hopefully mine will be out soon) and I had one in my left ear. He sounded great. Halfway there he pulled out his new headphones and put me on his cell phone. Two minutes later he asked me what I use and I told him I use Melomania headphones in my left ear. He said I sounded perfect. I was at work and there was a lot of noise around me. Maybe they can call better than I thought. Firmly. OK, one more thing. I promise! I tested both the new Master & Dynamic MW08 headphones and the new Bowers & Wilkins PI7 headphones. It's been about a month since I've used these Melomania buds. I cheered for them today and I'm just more impressed than ever. They should be fully smoked with their respective $300 and $400 buds. At least not with sound. The other two offer more features and sound better, but that's only marginal. This is theft. Unreal Melomania!
