Review on Sony MDRZX100 Stereo Headphones Blue by April Goracke

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great value headphones for big heads

I bought these in December 2012 and have been using them intermittently ever since. I often put them in my backpack or bag when I leave the house. They're compact, don't take up much space (cups fold), they're lightweight (4.1 oz on the scale without cord, about 5 oz on the scale with cord), and if lost or broken, it is not a problem big financial loss. They're very unobtrusive when you're wearing them, so you won't stand out as "the guy" with "giant headphones" at the coffee shop. BIG HEAD FRIENDLY: As a big head owner, this is one of the first things I check in headphones. Despite the compact size of the headphones, they are very comfortable on the head. A slider on each side of the headband allows you to independently increase the length by up to 1.7 inches. If I wear them full length they become too loose. On the other hand, they hardly fit into the full extension Monoprice 8323, although they are significantly larger. no comfort issues (1.5 years after purchase, I don't remember the original out of the box). The ear pads are still intact, not torn. I don't use them in extreme situations, but I don't spoil them either. In a bag, I just put them in a padded headphone case that can't protect them from bumps (they fit in this Shure HPACP1 headphone case for SRH240A, SRH240, SRH440, SRH550DJ, SRH750DJ and SRH840 headphones). They survived a few falls from a table onto an uncarpeted surface. GREAT MUSIC: For today's music (rock, alternative, R&B etc) these are great headphones at a reasonable price. While they're not perfect and audiophile and discerning listeners may point out various issues with them, given the price, they do a pretty good job of playing a variety of contemporary music genres without distracting you from your actual music listening experience. And that's all you can ask for in this price range. I have not used them with classical music. ISOLATION and LEAKAGE: You are better at limiting leakage (other people will hear your music) than isolation (other sounds will reach your ears). They reduce external noise, but are average compared to other headphones. If this worries you, you can try them first or check the return policy. CABLE: The cable is non-detachable and attached to both ear cups. You can listen to music with smartphones and tablets, but there is no microphone and no remote control for phone calls or music control. Jack 90 degrees, with two rings. I had no problems connecting to a device in the case, but I don't use big and thick cases. Random all-purpose adapters without a 1/4" thread work great with it. LEFT and RIGHT: You can easily tell the left cup from the right, the right side has a red mark. There are also L and R on the inside above the earpiece. Earpiece , which is not easy to see. But you can also distinguish L/R by touch, outside, just above the earcup, there is a dot on the left and no dots on the right. If you close your eyes and this area touch, you can easily distinguish them, which is a plus for people with visual impairments.
