They open quite wide when not attached, making them easier to put on a child's foot. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying a size too big (better than too small lol) so I can't say for sure how well it holds up to wear and tear. They look good and look like they will last a while. They are very soft both inside and out and feel like fine foam when you squeeze the fabric so it feels like they are very comfortable. Will leave them and order the correct size as they look like they will work perfectly.
