Review on Axiom Verge Multiverse Nintendo Switch by Jihu Gim ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am amazed at how well the product is made, just magically!

There is such a subgenre of action games - metroidvania. It originated back in 1986, when Nintendo released the game Metroid. The essence of this game was to search for power-ups on a large map, the locations of which were interconnected with each other, but at the same time access to them was opened as certain abilities were acquired. Since the release of Metroid, other developers have been inspired by this gameplay system and created their own masterpieces, one of the most famous being Axiom Verge. Axiom Verge was released relatively recently in 2022, but has already managed to earn the fame of a very ambitious project. Since all design, all music and code is the creation of one man Thomas Hupp. Despite this, the project turned out to be surprisingly holistic: visual effects, music, gameplay - nothing stands out from the general theme and serves the plot 100%. The story revolves around a physicist named Trace, who finds himself in a parallel universe and tries to find out what happened to him. The plot in the game is just enough to arouse the player's interest in exploring the world, finding notes, deciphering them, learning more about the new world. At the same time, in order to enjoy the gameplay, it is not necessary to dive deep into the plot. Locations in the game are varied and interesting. A lot of different abilities from a laser drill to teleportation. The bosses in the game are not very difficult, but at the same time, you need to find a certain approach to each of them. In general, it is quite possible to spend 10-15 hours exploring the entire world of the game.
