I was initially looking for an ice cream maker - Opal for ice cream, but the size of this machine means I can either have smoothies all day or have a meal prep space to steam down all the alcohol. Getting a silicone version of the tiny ice cube trays wasn't that appealing either. I finally found the perfect solution after doing some work to crush the ice to the size I prefer for my cocktails. But the bottom line justifies it. I start the conversation when our friends are surprised that something exists (cloth bag and hammer) that they all thought was gone. Also, I can hone my mallet style to create the right ice cubes for quite a few cocktails when we meet. This solution can't be wrong - easy to use, easy to store, easy to maintain...
