This is exactly what you see in the description. My Mini 2 fits well. The only thing I think they could improve is the depth of the controller pocket by raising the bottom a bit (speaking of the Mini 2 controllers, I have no experience with the original Mini). I have a hard time getting my finger between the foam and the controller to get it out, almost to the point where I feel like I'm deforming or damaging the material after repeated removal. What I did to fix this was take one of the removed bottom inserts (the inner foam is a solid red surface and you just remove the preformed foam cutouts before storing things there) and place it before saving to the side under the controller. This will raise the controller up for easy removal (the pictures show what I mean and how the controller fits into the fix I made). Still a great case. Beautiful on the outside, red on the inside too.
