Review on 🎀 Olympus DS-150 Digital Voice Recorder: Superior Sound Recording at Your Fingertips by Daryle Grove

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good but disappointing

There is something valuable about the DS-150. Its small size and light weight are welcome, and it's fairly easy to store audio files in WAV format (my main buying criteria) on my computer. However, the user interface is simply one of the worst I've seen. Even after following the steps in the manual, I wasn't able to perform simple operations like setting the time without reading the manual again. It makes an ordinary VCR look better! If you've already seen the Olympus manual, you know what to expect. Written in five languages, it is tedious, cryptic, poorly organized and full of tragic grammatical errors. The sound quality is also not up to par. Forget the ViaVoice software - it's complete crap unless you need inspiration for your weird Dada poetry. How can you claim decent "speech recognition" if even half the words aren't recognized correctly? IBM and Olympus should be ashamed for committing this kind of public deception. I really needed a small voice recorder that would connect to my computer, so I gritted my teeth and suffered from this poorly designed product. But I will not suffer in silence. If you bang your head against a wall, it won't hurt as much if you can. and moan about it.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No insurance
